Washington Spirit ended the NWSL regular season with a 2–0 win over Chicago Stars on 1 November in the United States, in the early hours of 2 November in Jerusalem. Michelle Alozie’s 62nd-minute own goal opened the scoring before Trinity Rodman added the second in the 85th, according to the event record.

Washington finished third with 55 points from 30 matches, scoring 43 goals and conceding 28, in the league’s official final table. Chicago remained sixteenth on 17 points. These are completed regular-season totals, rather than a table for the subsequent knockout rounds.

The consequence of third place

The official quarterfinal schedule published on 2 November assigns Washington a home game against sixth-seeded Portland Thorns on Sunday, 8 November. The final-round win is therefore followed by a home opening tie. Portland arrive with 50 regular-season points against Washington’s 55, both over 30 matches. Those are completed league totals, not a score for their upcoming meeting.
