Ashley Sanchez won the NWSL Golden Boot with 20 goals in 30 regular-season appearances, according to the league’s announcement published on 2 November. Her individual award did not coincide with a playoff place for North Carolina Courage, despite their 1–0 victory over Denver Summit in the final round.

The official final standings put the Courage ninth with 45 points from 30 games, behind eighth-placed Seattle on 47. Seattle beat Orlando 1–0 on the same matchday and retained the last qualifying position. Those totals explain why a North Carolina victory alone was insufficient to change the outcome of the final-place race.

Individual and team measures

The league announcement places Barbra Banda second in the scoring race with 17 goals from 23 appearances, followed by Sophia Wilson on 15 from 28. The Golden Boot is awarded for regular-season goals, whereas qualification depends on team points. Sanchez’s season demonstrates how an outstanding individual scoring total and a team’s qualification outcome can diverge.
