Vancouver Whitecaps beat Seattle Sounders 5–1 on Sunday, 1 November, after taking control of the score almost immediately. Brian White opened the scoring in the first minute and Ryan Gauld doubled the advantage in the ninth, according to ESPN’s final match record.
The lead grew on either side of half-time
Mathías Laborda made it three in the 43rd minute, before White added his second in the 53rd. Jordan Morris replied for Seattle after 62 minutes, but Aleksa Cvetković restored the four-goal margin in the 70th. Seattle’s goal consequently remained a consolation rather than the beginning of a comeback.
Vancouver recorded 18 attempts and nine shots on target, compared with Seattle’s 13 attempts and five on target. Seattle had slightly more possession, 51.6% against 48.4%, but the home side produced more accurate attempts and a much larger return on the scoreboard. Gauld contributed an assist for Laborda as well as his own goal, while Bruno Caicedo supplied both of White’s finishes. The goal sequence and the shooting figures together explain how the gap developed, beyond the final score alone.
