Lionel Messi supplied the equaliser and scored the winner as Inter Miami overturned a second-half deficit to defeat New England Revolution 2–1. The match took place on Sunday in the United States and into the early hours of Monday, 2 November, in Jerusalem. The sequence is documented in ESPN’s final match record and goal commentary.
A headed combination changed the score
Dániel Gazdag gave New England the lead in the 53rd minute, assisted by Ilay Feingold. Miami equalised in the 69th when Germán Berterame headed in after a headed pass from Messi. The Argentine then finished left-footed in the 83rd minute following Telasco Segovia’s pass.
The overall shooting totals were close: Miami attempted 14 shots to New England’s 13. The visitors nevertheless recorded six shots on target, twice the home side’s three, despite having only 45.1% possession. That distinction adds context to the result without assuming that possession alone determined the game. Messi’s direct involvement in both goals was decisive in the scoring sequence, with Berterame’s equaliser creating the opportunity for the later winner.
